Kayaking - Bundeena
|
|
The weather was perfect for the planned event, so we bravely headed off to demonstrate our kayaking abilities or lack thereof. Armed with sunscreen, well some were!! we set off from the beach ..... is this where the plot was formed do you think, or had this already happened - I am not sure who decided it was "Get Debbie Day" and I am sure it was undeserving (or maybe not), I'm sure I was intentionally splashed more than some. Things were going well, the water was sensational, clean and clear, the "rapids" were a thrill (Ok so that is an extension of the truth), but as we turn for home the weather changes, the wind is against us, I am told it is my turn to steer (that was a mistake wasn't it John). We are forced to pull in to a small beach, climb an enormous sand dune, dragging our kayaks behind us and then return our kayaks to the water for the last ocean leg. The swell was raging above our heads (probably a bit of a stretch for the sake of a good story) but this is where the plot comes into play again when the kayak was suddenly lurched through the air and into my head!!! You all know who I am talking about here. The sea was crashing against me, as was the kayak, drowning was the next best option - thank goodness for Bruce The Guide (and what a Guide he was!!) he saved me. Was that laughter I heard from John E - yes I think it was. We survived to return for lunch and the plot starts again - Andrew has "stolen" my lunch!! |
